The Lady's Companion Review: The Spanish Costume Drama attempts to fill the void of Bridergton till the new season arrive

Set in Madrid somewhere in 1800, the story delves into the quest of women aiming to live independently.

Elena Bianda is wise and not benevolent, but she is clear in her choices. After weaving a bunch of lies, she trudged her way into Mencia's house. All she wanted was to be their chaperone and help each girl find a suitable husband. But she got caught in an unpleasant love triangle in the process.

Deriving inspiration from Netflix’s favourite piece- Bridgerton, this show struggles to bring its flavour. From the set to the heavy costume, it appeared like a loose version of its highly successful predecessor.

Elena, the central character of the series, is also the narrator. She relies more on her brain and rarely follows her heart. Santiago resembles a lot with Theodre. Just like he enjoyed the love of all the March sisters, this boy was loved by all the Mencia sisters.

The story felt more like a dumb charades game. Even the unpleasant twist turned out to be far more predictable than planned. The complicated love triangle among Elena, Santiago, and Cristina failed to amuse. It appeared more like a tiresome drag than burning some real love.

With a promise of next season, the first installment has been a mediocre run. Now an intriguing love tale can fix this.
